SOME 200 pupils from underprivileged families in Johor Baru will get brand new uniforms and bags when the new school term starts on March 19.
The 10 schools are SK Pengkalan Rinting, SK Kampung Pasir, SK Kompleks Uda, SK Bandar Uda 2, SK Taman Perling, SK Sungai Danga, SK Tasek Utara, SK Taman Cempaka, SK Seri Kenanga and SK Seri Melati.
In line with its corporate social responsibility, UDA Holdings Bhd (UDA), which is one of the agencies under the Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development Ministry, allocated RM56,000 for the school items.
UDA investment and property management senior vice-president Mohd Nazri Jamiran thanked the heads of the 10 schools in making its back-to-school programme a success.
“This is our proactive step in contributing to the community and helping those in need, especially in UDA’s development and business regions.
“This programme is organised on a yearly basis to ease poor parents’ financial burden in preparing for the new school term,” he said during the launch of the programme at Angsana JB Mall in Tampoi.
He added that they would take the pupils to shop for their new school uniforms and bags at the mall.
Mohd Nazri also said that UDA had allocated RM60,000 to help around 450 underprivileged pupils from 14 schools in Sabah under the same programme in January and early February.
He hoped that the pupils who received brand new school items would now be more enthusiastic about returning to school.
“I hope the efforts of UDA, together with the government and the ministry, can help produce outstanding human capital and future generations who will contribute towards the development of Malaysia Madani.
“This back-to-school initiative is also in line with UDA’s new branding called ‘Life’, which translates our commitment to providing a better life for the community as well as focusing on sustainability,” he said.
